European Commission chief says Ukraine’s stability is tied to joining EU
In a message shared online, she stated, "Ultimately, the prosperity of a free Ukrainian state lies in accession to the EU. It’s also a key security guarantee in its own right," according to reports.
Her comments followed a high-level phone discussion organized within the Berlin Format, during which European and Canadian leaders reviewed ongoing support for Ukraine, along with issues related to security and postwar rebuilding.
The European Commission president also underscored the broader value of enlargement, noting: "Accession doesn’t only benefit countries that join; as the successive waves of enlargement show, the whole of Europe benefits."
Separately, the president of the European Council expressed appreciation for the coordination call, highlighting its role in evaluating the latest developments in negotiations aimed at ending the conflict. He emphasized shared resolve among participants, saying, "We are united in our determination to intensify efforts toward a just and sustainable peace."
In another online statement, Germany’s chancellor echoed similar sentiments, asserting that Ukraine’s partners are moving the peace process forward. He added that accountability is essential at this stage, stating, "Transparency and honesty are now required from everyone – including Russia."
