EU Extends Sanctions on Russia Over Unlawful Crimea Annexation
According to the Commission’s announcement, imports of goods originating from Crimea and Sevastopol remain banned across EU member states.
Furthermore, the measures limit the participation of EU citizens and enterprises within these territories.
European firms are barred from offering investment and financial services tied to Crimea and Sevastopol.
Additionally, a broad range of products and technologies intended for transportation, telecommunications, and energy industries are prohibited from being supplied.
Notably, the sanctions forbid the transfer of technology and technical support related to the exploration, extraction, and production of oil, natural gas, and minerals.
In the official release, the European Commission affirmed: "The EU does not recognize and continues to condemn the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol by the Russian Federation as a violation of international law."
The Russian Federation annexed the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol in March 2014, an act widely condemned internationally.
In response to Russia’s annexation and the concurrent unrest in eastern Ukraine, the EU, alongside the United States and several other nations, imposed economic sanctions against Russia.
